ACCESS TO GOD'S OFFICE

A young woman who worked at the White House was walking with her two-year-old son through a corridor. Suddenly he pulled away from her and began running down the hall. Maneuvering past the guards, he sprinted straight into the oval office, where the President of the United States was in the midst of a meeting with foreign dignitaries. Without a moment’s hesitation, this boy sashayed right up to the desk of most powerful man in the world and climbed on his lap.

Incredibly, neither the president nor anyone else involved was surprised by his actions, because of one simple fact. The president was John F. Kennedy, and the young boy was his son JFK Jr. That last bit of information changes everything, doesn’t it?  Had any of us attempted to dash into the Oval Office unannounced, we would have been instantly shot! What made the difference? Relationship. To JFK Jr, this man wasn’t the President… he was Daddy!

In the same way, the Almighty Creator gives us open access into his “office” (throne room). He's never too busy or preoccupied with "more important" matters. In Hebrews 4:16 he issues this invitation. “Let us come boldly before the throne of grace that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.”

Too often we allow the enemy to fill us with shame, convincing us we're not "worthy" of approaching God; that we've done too many "bad things". Yet when Jesus died, he tore the veil separating us from God (Matthew 27:51), cleansing us or our sin and removing our terror of God.

Certainly there are times we approach God in humility as Lord Most High. But he assures us, that because Jesus removed the barrier between us and God, we can, as young JFK Jr, come boldly into his presence in time of need. For his followers, he’s not just King of Kings. He’s our Papa!
