POLITICALLY CORRECT STARING

Last week, entertainment giant Netflix released a new sexual harassment policy for employees. Much of the policy, such as “Don’t give lingering hugs or touch anyone for a lengthy period of time", is just common sense. But one item caught the media's attention. Netflix has banned film crews from looking at someone for more than five seconds, considering this to be sexual harassment. If this rule is violated, employees are told to yell: “Stop! Don’t do that again!” It's already sparking lots of jokes, such as workers staring at each other, counting to five and then looking away.  (Source: The Sun, 6/12/18)

Is it my imagination, or does it seem almost daily we're blasted with new examples of political correctness running wild? Looking at someone for more than five seconds is sexual harassment...really?! What's next...breathing too loudly? But, this is just the latest example. Consider these cases:

·         Washington State Prisons now refer to inmates as ‘Students’

·         In 2008, Santa Clauses in Sydney, Australia were banned from saying "Ho, ho, ho" because it was considered disrespectful to prostitutes

·         Evergreen State College told professors to take students' feelings into account when issuing grades

·         University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee declared the phrase “politically incorrect” to be ... politically incorrect!  (That's my favorite!)

Where will it end? What a refreshing contrast to discover that God and the Bible are ANYTHING BUT politically correct! God's wisdom and the world's wisdom stand in sharp contrast. In I Corinthians 1:20, St. Paul asks, "So where can you find someone truly wise, truly educated, truly intelligent in this day and age? Hasn’t God exposed it all as pretentious nonsense? Since the world in all its fancy wisdom never had a clue when it came to knowing God, God in his wisdom took delight in using what the world considered dumb—preaching, of all things! —to bring those who trust him into the way of salvation." Later he adds in verse 25, "For the foolishness of God is wiser than human wisdom, and the weakness of God is stronger than human strength."

That last verse says it all. If you combine all the earth's knowledge and power, God in his weakest moment, (if He had one) is SO MUCH GREATER than everything the world offers.  That's one thing you can count on. God's wisdom may not always make sense to us; but He's always right. Remember that in our world of political correctness...especially, the next time someone looks at you for more than five seconds!
