THRIVING IN QUARANTINE

OK. Here's a quick review of the past few months. On February 21, seven members of our family set sail for a cruise to Hawaii on the Grand Princess. On March 23, we returned home, having spent six days confined to our cabin and fourteen days quarantined at Travis Air Force Base for coronavirus. Quite the adventure! Since then, I've written a book about the ordeal, entitled Thriving in Quarantine. It's subtitled A Humorous Look at One Family's Misadventures Aboard the Corona Cruise. The book officially launches on Tuesday, June 23 on Amazon.com. Check it out, either in print or eBook. An audio version will shortly follow.

I tried not to write the book. Considering all the serious matters in our world today, it seemed trivial in some ways, so I set it aside for a few weeks. But then I felt compelled to write it. In a sense, I couldn't not  write it. (Anyone know what I'm talking about?) So I picked it back up and finished.

Sure, there are lots of more serious matters we're dealing with right now. But I believe God led me to write this book. First, because it's a testimony of our family's faith in a very trying situation. But also, in a world inundated with negative news, maybe we need to shine a little humor into the situation.

Here's what best-selling author Francine Rivers said about Thriving In Quarantine:  "With Barney Cargile’s signature sense of humor and strong faith, readers will dwell without risk in the midst of the COVID 19 pandemic aboard the Grand Princess.  Barney shows how God meets us anywhere and everywhere when we have our eyes and ears open. A thoroughly enjoyable read about life under quarantine."

In this journey, I've had lots of other help. My editor Denise Loock was very patient with my writing rookie-ness. (She would probably edit out "rookie-ness"). My good friend Fallon Sealund helped so much when I was over my head in technical challenges. And the support of my family has been invaluable. OK, I'll quit. It's starting to sound like the Oscars.

Yes, I'm shamelessly plugging my book right now. But I believe in it. Go online and check out Thriving in Quarantine. And if you like it, please write a review. And, if you don't like it... well, remember what your mother said, "If you can't say something good, don't say anything at all.
